SNP Announce Benbecula and North Uist Council By-Election Candidate
The Comhairle by-election to fill the vacancy in the Beinn na Foghla agus Uibhist a Tuath ward will be contested for the Scottish National Party by Roslyn Macpherson. Polling will take place on the 26th March. Roslyn, who lives in Benbecula, works for Skills Development Scotland, but may be better known to some through her role as a counsellor for the National Childbirth Trust charity.
On confirmation that the seat will be contested, Roslyn said: "I'm pleased to have received the nomination from the SNP to be the candidate for the Beinn na Foghla agus Uibhist a Tuath ward by-election. The campaign will only last a month, but I look forward to using that time to listen to views and concerns and to demonstrate my desire to be part of representing the people of Benbecula and North Uist at the Comhairle. I know I can hit the ground running, given the encouragement I've been given by the SNP Council Group. Having lived, worked and raised a family in the ward for the past 20 years, I'm well acquainted with many of the challenges we face, and I'm determined to make our voice heard at Local Government level and beyond. "
Alasdair Allan MSP commented: "I am delighted that Roslyn will be the SNP's candidate and believe she will fight a very positive campaign with the interests of the community at heart. Roslyn lives and works in the ward, and she knows well the needs and priorities that North Uist and Benbecula have, whether those be around transport services, education, healthcare or the need to bring jobs to the area. I've no doubt that Roslyn would be a hard-working and effective councillor for the ward."
Cllr Donald Manford added: “I am delighted that Roslyn has chosen to stand for election and is a marvellous candidate for the ward of Beinn Na Foghla agus Uibhist a Tuath. I look forward to campaigning with her over the coming weeks.”
