Allan Encourages Consultation Responses on Barra Bank, as Deadline approaches
SNP MSP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Alasdair Allan, has urged people in Barra to make their views about the future of their Bank before a deadline for public responses to RBS’s consultation.
Alasdair Allan commented:
“I have already submitted a response to the consultation on behalf of the constituents who have contacted me on this issue. Unsurprisingly, nobody has come to me making a case for the closure to go ahead.
Instead, I have heard consistently about how personal and business customers will be disadvantaged if they are left without a branch on the island. Many people have also mentioned the impact which a closure would have for the many tourists visiting the island.
“There seems to have been an apparent underestimation, on the part of RBS, of the difficulties in providing a mobile banking service to an island - and the inevitable degradation of service to both Barra and to the Uists whenever disruptions to the ferry service arose.
“I note that RBS is committed to follow the advice of the independent review, and very much hope the conclusion is to retain the branch, and to repair the confidence of the community in their banking service.”
